Design and package settings

Font and emoji appearance depends on the browser and available fonts.

Shape & spacing

Shape clips the foreground too. Radius affects rounded squares. Apple and maskable PNGs use the opaque app background below.

App & installation settings

Use root-relative paths, for example /icons/ and /app/. Use letters, numbers, - or _. Folders end with /. The start path must be inside the scope. These settings do not create those pages.

02 / Check the details

One identity. Several sizes.

A useful package, ready to install.

The generator creates icon files and a starter manifest. Your website still needs its own hosting, HTTPS and application behavior. It does not become a complete PWA just by adding icons.

03 / Take your files

Everything in one download.

View included files

Save before leaving. Settings contain your controls, not the original image. Reopening image-based settings requires reselecting that image. Undo/Redo tracks up to 30 settings changes, not deleted image bytes.

04 / Put it on your website

Upload the folder. Add the code.

Copy the configured icon folder from your ZIP to the website root, then paste these tags inside your HTML head. Review existing favicon and manifest tags to avoid conflicts.

View generated web manifest

Serve the manifest as application/manifest+json or another JSON MIME type. After upload, check every file URL, home-screen appearance and favicon caching in actual browsers.

A little clarity goes a long way

Design for the smallest version first.

01

Keep the mark simple

Strong silhouettes and short initials are easier to recognize at 16 px. A large logo with a tagline may need a simpler variant.

02

Give it room

Use padding to protect edges. Check both light and dark surroundings, and inspect maskable icons under the safe-circle guide.

03

Verify after upload

Browser caches can keep an old icon. Confirm the new files are served, check your head tags and test on the devices your visitors use.

Favicons and Google Search

A recognizable square favicon can help identify your website. Include the 48 px or larger version, keep its URL stable and let Google crawl the home page and image. Google decides whether an eligible icon is displayed; this tool does not submit your website or guarantee indexing.

Frequently asked questions

What does the icon package include?

The standard package contains nine PNG images: 16, 32, 48 and 96 px favicons, a 180 px Apple touch icon, regular 192/512 px app icons and separate 192/512 px maskable icons. It also includes a 16/32/48 px multi-image ICO, a web manifest, installation code, instructions and editable settings. Optional extras add 64, 128, 256 and 1024 px PNGs.

Can I create an icon without uploading a logo?

Yes. Text mode accepts one to four visible characters, including supported emoji. Choose a font family, weight, text size, colors and background shape. Text and emoji appearance can vary with the browser and installed fonts; inspect the preview and downloaded files.

Which image formats and limits are supported?

Use a still PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 20 MiB, 12 million pixels and 8,192 pixels per edge. GIF, SVG, HEIC and animated inputs are rejected. Convert unsupported sources first. Image orientation is applied during decoding. Actual memory capacity depends on your device.

How do Contain and Cover differ?

Contain fits the full image inside the padded square. Cover fills that square by cropping the excess. Horizontal and vertical position controls move the crop, and you can rotate the image in 90-degree steps. Transparent pixels remain transparent unless composited onto a background.

What makes the maskable icons different?

Maskable PNGs have an opaque background. The complete foreground icon is centered at 56% of the output width and height, keeping its corners inside the central circle with a radius of 40% of the icon size. The guide is visible only in the preview; it is not exported. Platforms may apply their own masks.

Are Apple touch icons transparent?

The generated 180 px Apple touch icon is composited onto your chosen opaque app background. The file stays square, without a platform-specific outer mask. The platform decides how it appears on its home screen.

Does this create a complete PWA or native app?

No. It creates icons and a starter web manifest. It does not add a service worker, offline behavior, a native application or store submission files. Installation requirements depend on the browser, HTTPS, your application and its deployment.

Will these icons appear in Google Search?

That is not guaranteed. Use a square favicon of at least 48 px for a useful high-resolution option, link it from your home page and allow crawling of the home page and image. Google decides whether and when an eligible favicon appears. Generating icons does not submit or index the website.

How do I install the downloaded ZIP?

Copy the configured icon folder from the ZIP into your website root and add head-snippet.txt to your HTML head. Check the manifest start path and scope. Serve the manifest with a JSON MIME type, inspect all URLs after upload and account for browser favicon caches. The included README explains the files.

Are my files uploaded or saved automatically?

No. The editor processes your source locally and downloads the results. Settings JSON excludes the original image, so reselect it after reopening an image-based project. Normal site analytics and feedback services can still load, but the icon editor does not send image bytes or entered settings to them.
