The exported file is a newly encoded image containing your applied effects. Your original file stays unchanged. Blur and pixelation are not reliable redaction methods; use solid covers for sensitive content. This tool uses manual selections, without face detection or automatic background selection.

Frequently asked questions
How do I blur only part of a picture?
Choose an image, select Blur and drag a rectangle over the area. You can also enter exact pixel coordinates and use Add region. Select any existing region, change its settings and choose Apply changes. Use Select / move to drag an existing region; Move earlier/later changes its effect order. Strength uses original-image pixels, not the zoomed preview.
Is blur enough to hide private information?
Blur and pixelation are visual effects and may leave information recognizable or recoverable. For private text, use a fully opaque solid rectangular cover, include a margin around the entire detail, and inspect the exported image at full size. Check the whole image for other copies of the information.
Which files can I use?
Open one still PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 20 MiB, 8 million pixels and 8,192 pixels per edge. Animated images, GIF, SVG and HEIC are not supported. The browser applies orientation while decoding. Large files may need more memory than a device can provide.
Can I blur faces automatically?
This editor uses manually placed rectangles and ellipses. It does not detect faces, text, number plates or backgrounds automatically. You choose exactly which areas to change.
What do the effect strengths mean?
Blur is an alpha-weighted box blur with a radius from 1 to 100 original pixels, clipped at each region boundary. Pixelate averages blocks from 1 to 100 pixels wide, anchored at that region’s top-left corner. A 1-pixel pixelation block leaves pixels unchanged. Solid covers are fully opaque.
Can I use multiple effects together?
Yes, add up to 40 regions. Blur and pixelation are processed in list order. Solid covers are applied last so a later blur cannot soften or replace a cover. Make all solid rectangles converts every region in one action and can be undone. Rectangle and ellipse masks use crisp pixel boundaries; outlines and region numbers are not exported.
Will the download keep the original resolution?
Yes. The preview and export use the decoded image’s full dimensions. PNG and WebP can retain transparency; JPEG is flattened onto your chosen background. PNG is lossless. JPEG and WebP quality can be set from 10 to 100 and may change pixel values. Browser color decoding can affect colors.
Are my images uploaded?
The editor reads and processes the image locally using a worker in your browser. It does not upload your image or save it automatically. Normal website analytics and feedback services may still load. Downloads are newly encoded images; the source file’s EXIF metadata and editable layers are not copied.
Can I save my edits and return later?
Save settings to download a small JSON file. It contains the effect regions, export options, dimensions and a SHA-256 fingerprint, without the source image. Reopen the exact original file before opening settings. A resized, re-encoded or otherwise changed file is rejected to avoid placing covers on the wrong content. Undo/Redo retains up to 30 changes during this session.
How do I work without dragging?
Use the Left, Top, Width and Height fields to create or adjust a region. Choose a region in the list to edit it. When the image stage has keyboard focus, arrow keys move the selected region by one pixel, or ten pixels with Shift. Zoom and Original comparison help inspect the result. Unapplied edits and Original comparison disable image export.
